The two Windows Home Server discs – the Server Install Disc, and the Client Restore Disc can be downloaded from the subscribers download section of both TechNet and MSDN as illustrated from the screenshot below.
I'm trying desperately to restore my system from a WHS backup. I have the dual-boot (latest version) of the Restore CD. When I run the CD, it goes through all the verifying of drivers and what not and everything looks like it will work. Then it gets to the part where it's looking for the Server and hangs. After a minute or so, it reports back that it was unable to find the server. I've tried again and again but it still won't find it. I had changed the name of the server, so I thought that might be the problem. When I did the manual option, I typed the name of the server but it still couldn't find it. After searching through the support bases I found a user having a similar problem and was the result of having inproper drivers for the NIC he had. After swapping NIC's it worked. I tried this too but the only NIC adapter I have is my Dad's wireless USB dongle. It didn't work.
I have reinstalled Windows 7 onto the proper partition. After that I reinstalled the WHS Console in hopes that it would have a way to restore the drive via the backup through there. Of course, it DOESN'T. The only option available is to restore the individual files by copying them over one by one. I'm in the process of doing that now, but it's not working on a bunch of them, saying I need permission to (I'm using the admin account on the computer too). One thing I thought about was trying to rename the server from my new name I gave it back to the original name of SERVER. It still doesn't respond through the Restore CD.
I don't know what else to try. Restoring files one by one through the WHS Console isn't working on over 75% of the files it has backed up. I really need to restore and can't believe there's no solution out there for me. Please if anybody has ANY idea of something to try, please let me know!
